HC Deb 06 May 1936 vol 311 cc1702-3
59. Sir EDMUND FINDLAY

asked the Postmaster-General whether his attention has been called to the case of the sub-postmistress at Port Gordon; and what steps he proposes to take to assure the depositors and others concerned that they will not be involved in any loss as the result of action by an agent of his Department?

Sir W. WOMERSLEY

My attention has been drawn to this unfortunate case. Investigation is proceeding, and I am not yet in a position to make a statement as to the extent of the liability proper to be borne by my Department.

Mr. THORNE

Have the auditors been called to account on this matter?

Sir W. WOMERSLEY

The case is to come before the court in Scotland on Monday next, and I had better say nothing more about it until it has been heard and decided.

Major LEIGHTON

Has the attention of the Postmaster-General been called to a similar case in my constituency?

Mr. SPEAKER

That is a different question altogether.
