HC Deb 09 May 1935 vol 301 c1122
21. Mr. H. WILLIAMS

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether on the expiry of Additional Import Duties (No. 13) Order, 1935, it is intended to make a further order or whether the above-mentioned order will be submitted for a confirmatory resolution of the Commons House of Parliament?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

The answer to the first part of the question depends upon whether, as a result of the negotiations which are now taking place between the British Iron and Steel Federation and the International Steel Cartel with a view to the conclusion of a long-term agreement, further recommendations are received from the Import Duties Advisory Committee before 7th August next. In the absence of any such recommendations, the higher rates of duty in force before the Order of 3rd May took effect will again become operative after 7th August. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
