HC Deb 19 March 1935 vol 299 c994
39. Mr. CHARLES BROWN

asked the Minister of Transport whether he will state his reasons for writing a foreword to a booklet issued by the Eagle, Star, and British Dominion Insurance Company suggesting the taking of motor insurance policies with that company?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

I think the hon. Member is under a misapprehension. There is no such suggestion contained in my foreword. Some time ago I made a public appeal to all insurance companies to assist the campaign for road safety. The company in question immediately responded by preparing a booklet of guidance which they offered to circulate to two million policyholders. I gave my approval to this as being in the public interest, and I am prepared to take the same course with any similar company which in addition to covering its policy holders against road accidents will do even better and tell them how to avoid them.
