HC Deb 11 March 1935 vol 299 cc23-4
47. Mr. GEORGE HALL

asked the Prime Minister the cost of defence for the last completed year distributed amongst this country and the Dominions, showing the total defence expenditure per head of the population of this country and the Dominions, together with the cost per capita of the ship-borne trade of this country and the Dominions?

Mr. BALDWIN

The hon. Member will find the latest available particulars of defence expenditure and population in this country and the Dominions in the Armaments Year Book, published by the League of Nations. The per capita value of the ship-borne trade of the United Kingdom and of the Dominions during the year 1934 is estimated to have been about £35 and £18, respectively. I should like to add that I was not quite sure what the hon. Member meant by cost per capita. I assume he meant the value per head, and that is what I have given in the answer.

Mr. H. WILLIAMS

Will the right hon. Gentleman arrange to have a supply of copies of the armaments year book placed in the Vote Office?

Mr. BALDWIN

I did not know it was not there. I will look into that matter.
