HC Deb 20 June 1935 vol 303 c526
38. Mr. DICKIE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he would be prepared to place at the disposal of firms desirous of establishing in the special areas new plants for the extraction of oil from coal the same financial facilities as those recently granted to the railway companies?

The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Chamberlain)

Substantial assistance for the extraction of oil from coal in this country is provided in the British Hydrocarbon Oils Production Act, 1934, as regards light oils, and in the Finance Act, 1933, and the current Finance Bill as regards heavy oils. I am not aware of any need for providing additional facilities.
