HC Deb 09 December 1935 vol 307 c559
71. Mr. CHORLTON

asked the Minister of Transport if it is contemplated to carry out along with the extension of national trunk roads the provision of other national services, as that of water supply, as a means of national defence by the duplication of essential services?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Hore-Belisha)

While my Department does everything in its power to secure that adequate provision for water and other essential services does not interfere with the maintenance and repair of roads, my hon. Friend will appreciate that the services themselves and the scale on which they should be provided are not matters for me.

Mr. CHORLTON

Is there no way of making provision for these services when the new roads are projected?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

As far as I understood the question, I have endeavoured to give the answer to it, but if my answer is not satisfactory, perhaps my hon. Friend will make his point clear, and I will endeavour to deal with it.
