HC Deb 27 November 1933 vol 283 cc503-4
26. Sir PERCY HURD

asked the Minister of Agriculture what was the purpose and what has been the outcome of the milk mission which recently went to New Zealand on the invitation of the Prime Minister of that Dominion?

Mr. ELLIOT

The recent visit to New Zealand of Mr. T. Baxter, the Chairman of the Milk Marketing Board, was arranged by the National Farmers' Union in response to an invitation from the Prime Minister of that Dominion. The object of the visit was to provide an opportunity for an interchange of views with producers in New Zealand upon the difficulties arising from the state of the market for dairy products in the United Kingdom. It was not possible, I understand, in the time at his disposal, for decisions on the point at issue to be reached, but I am informed from all quarters that Mr. Baxter's visit did much to promote a better understanding of mutual difficulties.
