HC Deb 27 November 1933 vol 283 cc507-8
28. Mr. GRAHAM WHITE

asked the Minister of Agriculture if he is now in a position to remove the restrictions on the operation of Sections 14 and 16 of the Agricultural Land (Utilisation) Act, 1931, so that losses incurred by local authorities in providing allotments and equipment for unemployed persons may be defrayed?

Mr. ELLIOT

While the Government must maintain their decision on grounds of economy not to operate generally the Sections referred to, I would remind the hon. Member that a grant is being made from the Development Fund to the Society of Friends to supplement funds obtained by that society for the purpose of aiding the supply of seeds, fertilisers

Mr. ELLIOT

I am pleased to hear the suggestion that, if farmers are in danger of loss, the danger should be obviated by the expenditure of public funds.
