HC Deb 16 May 1933 vol 278 cc198-9
50. Mr. ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether the information derived from the particulars of the transfers of land obtained under Section 28 of the Finance Act, 1931, is only used by his Department; and, if not, to what other Departments it is supplied and what are the purposes for which this information is used?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The particulars required to be furnished under the Section referred to by my hon. Friend are designed to afford to the Inland Revenue information as to the current values of land, which is required by the Valuation Office of that Department for various purposes, including valuations for Death Duties and the advising of other Government Departments in regard to the purchase and sale of land for public purposes. The information obtained under the Section is not communicated to other Departments.

Mr. ANSTRUTHER-GRAY

Can the Financial Secretary say where the information was obtained prior to 1931?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

It was obviously obtained, but with less efficiency.
