HC Deb 01 May 1933 vol 277 cc492-3
22. Mr. LEWIS

asked the Minister of Agriculture how many weeks old an Australian egg has to be for it not to be entitled to be sold in this country as new laid?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Major Elliot)

I am advised that the term "new laid" has not been legally defined, but I may remind my hon. Friend that all imported eggs are required to be marked, and that eggs from Australia bear the name of the country of origin, which in itself shows that they have been chilled or otherwise preserved.
