HC Deb 11 July 1933 vol 280 cc924-5
35. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what part the Firestone Company will play in the reorganisation plan for Liberia, either by provision of finance or reduction of interest?

Mr. EDEN

I understand that the Finance Corporation of America, which issued a loan to Liberia as a, result of the Agreement of October, 1926, between the Liberian Government and the Firestone Company, are prepared to assist in both ways, subject to certain conditions. I do not think it would be right for me to give details, as the plan has not yet been accepted by all the interested parties. Both the Finance Corporation and the Firestone Company were consulted in the course of the recent discussions of the Liberia Committee of the League Council.
