HC Deb 30 May 1932 vol 266 c820
29. Mr. BURNETT

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he can give any assurance that the terms of the Sino-Japanese armistice are being carried out; whether the conditions agreed on are in process of fulfilment; and whether the boycott and anti-Japanese agitation in Shanghai have ceased?

Mr. EDEN

The reply to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. I have received no recent reports on the boycott and anti-Japanese agitation in Shanghai.

Mr. BURNETT

In the event of the disorder continuing and the Chinese courts refusing to convict, will the British Government, being represented on the International Commission, be responsible for the maintenance of the law?
