HC Deb 27 May 1932 vol 266 cc711-2
Mr. LANSBURY

May I be allowed to put a question to the Patronage Secretary—we were not able to give him notice— about business next week? I want to apologise for not having given Mr. Speaker notice beforehand. May I ask the Patronage Secretary if there has been any change made in the arrangements for the debate on the Coal Mines Bill?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Captain Margesson)

As long as the Third Reading of the Coal Mines Bill is obtained by Thursday night, the Government has no objection to the re-allocation of time of the various stages. Accordingly, if it meets the desire of the House, Monday and Tuesday next week will be devoted to the Second Reading of the Coal Mines Bill, Wednesday to the Committee stage, and Thursday to the remaining stages.

Mr. TINKER

Just now the Chairman of Ways and Means indicated that a Private Bill was to be taken on Thursday. Will that not take part of our time?

Captain MARGESSON

I understand that the Chairman of Ways and Means only called "Thursday."

Mr. LANSBURY

I should like to express our thanks to the Patronage Secretary for the change of arrangements. It is a very important Bill, and it is better to have our discussion on the Second Reading than on later stages.
