HC Deb 11 May 1932 vol 265 cc1893-4
23. Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

asked the Minister of Transport the number and names of the electricity boards in Scotland which have, since the passing of the Electricity Act, been merged in larger undertakings; and how many electricity mergers it is proposed to have in Scotland to cover the whole country?

The MINISTER of TRANSPORT (Mr. Pybus)

Since the passing of the Electricity Act of 1926, no electricity boards in Scotland have been merged in larger undertakings. While authority has been given for the acquisition of a number of smaller undertakings by larger undertakings in different parts of Scotland, I am not aware of any definite proposals for large electricity mergers in Scotland.

Lieut.-Colonel MOORE

Is my right hon. Friend satisfied that as a result of those smaller mergers to which he refers the cost of electricity has actually been reduced to the consumer?

Mr. McGOVERN

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that the result in and around the Glasgow and Lanarkshire area has been an increase in price to the consumer?
