HC Deb 15 June 1932 vol 267 c379
4. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if it is now proposed to re-submit in another form the Government's proposal to the Disarmament Conference with reference to the prohibition of the military training of young people under the age of conscription or voluntary enlistment and education; to which committee it was originally submitted for discussion; who was the British delegate; and which countries announced their opposition to the proposal in its original form?

Mr. EDEN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the negative. The proposal was originally submitted for discussion to the Moral Disarmament Sub-Commission of the Political Commission. The United Kingdom Delegate was Mrs. Corbett Ashby. The countries which announced their opposition to the proposal in its original form were Italy, Hungary and Switzerland. It must, however, be remembered that the proposal was at once referred by the Sub-Commission to a sub-committee and was withdrawn at the opening of the latter's discussions, so that the views of other countries who might have objected to the proposal were not ascertained.
