HC Deb 03 February 1932 vol 261 cc131-2
15. Captain PETER MACDONALD

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he now proposes to take any action with regard to the stabilisation of the sterling exchange?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Major Elliot)

I would refer my hon. and gallant Friend to the answer given to the hon. Member for the Stockport Division (Mr. Hammersley) on 17th November last, and to the Chancellor of the Exchequer's speech in the Debate in this House on 10th December last. The action which the Government are taking, and will continue to take, is to balance the Budget, to rectify the adverse trade balance and to maintain the internal purchasing power of the pound.
