HC Deb 11 April 1932 vol 264 cc541-2
57. Mr. MOREING

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether any duties which may be imposed by the forthcoming Budget will be collected on goods which are at present free of any Customs duty but which are now lying in a bonded warehouse?

Major ELLIOT

I am afraid that I can not anticipate the Budget statement.

Mr. MOREING

Is my right hon. Friend aware that consequent upon the uncertainty prevailing unnecessary withdrawals are at present being made of goods which are not dutiable but which may be dutiable in future, and that it is causing dislocation and inconvenience to the authorities who control bonded warehouses, and also causing serious loss as well?

Major ELLIOT

I think that a question on that point has already been put to my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, and answered. I understand that no alteration in the existing practice is contemplated. The existing practice is well understood.
