HC Deb 12 November 1931 vol 259 c250
15. Mr. McGOVERN

asked the Minister of Health if it is the intention of the Government to reduce rents of working-class houses to conform to his declaration of equal sacrifices by all citizens?

17. Lieut.-Colonel FREMANTLE

asked the Minister of Health, in view of the recommendations of the Departmental Committee on the Rent Restrictions Act, what action he proposes to take in the matter?

Sir H. YOUNG

The future of the Rent Restrictions Acts and any amendments of the Acts will be considered by the Government in the light of the report of the Departmental Committee which was recently issued. In the meantime it is proposed to prolong the operation of the present Acts by means of the Expiring Laws Continuance Bill.

Mr. McGOVERN

Can the right hon. Gentleman give any indication of any time at all when the Government suggest that Amendments may take place with a view to a reduction?

Sir H. YOUNG

I am afraid I must ask the hon. Member not to press me to-day for a further definition of the time.
