HC Deb 12 November 1931 vol 259 cc267-8
51. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs what countries have accepted the armaments truce proposed by the recent League of Nations Assembly?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Eden)

According to the latest available information, 35 States have definitely accepted the armament's trace and, in addition, two States have accepted it in principle. With my hon. Friend's permission, I will circulate the list of names in the OFFICIAL REPORT.

The following is the list of names:

Argentina. Latvia.
Australia. Lithuania.
Austria. Luxemburg.
Belgium. Netherlands.
Bulgaria. New Zealand.
Canada. Norway.
Chile. Poland.*
Czechoslovakia. Portugal.
Denmark. Rumania.*
Egypt. Siam.
Estonia. South Africa.
Finland. Spain.
France. Sweden.
Germany. Switzerland.
Great Britain. United States of America
Hungary.
India. Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Irish Free State.
Italy.
Japan. Yugoslavia.

* Accept the principle of the truce, but consider it to be too vaguely conceived at present, and that it should be studied in greater detail by the Disarmament Conference before they can decide on definite acceptance.
