HC Deb 19 May 1931 vol 252 cc1760-1
28. Major ELLIOT

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the number of owners of industrial lands in Scotland, the number of occupiers of industrial land, and the number of cases in which the owner is also the occupier; the total value of industrial subjects in Scotland; and the total value of those owned by the occupiers?

The SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Mr. William Adamson)

The total gross value of industrial and freight transport subjects in Scotland for the year 1930–31 is £7,134,000 and the rateable value £1,671,000. The return received by the Department of Health for Scotland does not show industrial subjects and freight transport subjects separately. I regret that the remainder of the information asked is not available and could be obtained only by calling for a special return which would impose a considerable amount of labour and expense on local authorities and would take a considerable time to obtain.

Major ELLIOT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether this information will be ready in time to be considered in relation to the proposed tax upon land value?
