Mr. GREENWOOD

The total of the surplus funds of approved societies and branches as ascertained at the second valuation amounted to £42,413,319, from which amounts totalling £26,619,161 were certified for distribution in additional benefits in the ensuing quinquennium. The summarised results of the third valuation are not yet available but will be embodied in the report of the Government Actuary, which I understand will be issued shortly after the Recess.
