HC Deb 30 January 1930 vol 234 cc1172-3
52. Mr. FREEMAN

asked the Minister of Health whether his attention has been called to an advertisement appearing in many newspapers, and particularly on Saturday, 28th December, 1929, in an evening paper, implying that the Health Ministry recommends certain meat extracts; whether this recommendation was given; and, if not, what action he proposes to take in the matter to dissociate the Ministry from such advertisements?

Mr. GREENWOOD

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. My Department does not recommend this or any other meat extract. But the advertisement does not appear to contain any misstatement of fact with regard to the Ministry of Health, and while I deprecate such a form of advertisement, I do not think that I can usefully take any action in the matter.

Mr. FREEMAN

Might I assume that the Ministry of Health has never made any such recommendation, and that any such advertisement is entirely misleading, inaccurate, and unjustified?

Mr. GREENWOOD

If there is any suggestion, explicit or implicit, that the Department has given any such recommendation, it is quite unfounded.
