HC Deb 03 February 1930 vol 234 c1499
65. Mr. LOVAT-FRASER

asked the First Commissioner of Works if he is aware that the fabric of a house in Chedworth, in the Cotswolds, is about to be removed to the United States of America; and if he will consider the desirability of introducing legislation to stop this process?

Mr. LANSBURY

I am advised that this was not a suitable case for intervention under the Ancient Monuments Act, which does, in fact, give the Commissioners of Works power to protect buildings not in actual occupation as dwelling-houses. I do not consider that further legislation on this point is needed at present.
