HC Deb 21 June 1928 vol 218 cc1744-5
51. Major ARCHIBALD SINCLAIR

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether fish-curing establishments are included in the category of productive industries under the terms of the Rating and Valuation (Apportionment) Bill?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Major Elliot)

I am advised that premises where fish-curing is carried on are factories or workshops within the meaning of the Factory and Workshop Act, 1901, and as such are industrial subjects for the purposes of the Rating and Valuation (Apportionment) Bill.

Major-General Sir ROBERT HUTCHISON

Does that include co-operative buildings in which the fishers handle their own fish?

Major ELLIOT

I should require to see that question on paper.

Sir R. HAMILTON

Would that apply to open spaces where fish-curing is carried on, and where there are no buildings?

Major ELLIOT

I should require notice of that question.

Mr. HARRIS

Would it apply to fried fish shops?
