An overseer was attacked by prisoners, who cut off his nose and thrashed him, as well as several warders. The Gaol Superintendent, when calling on the mutineers to surrender was injured by a tile. On fire being opened, one prisoner was shot dead and sixteen wounded, two of whom are reported to have died. Before the riot was quelled the Superintendent was again injured and a warder severely wounded. The District Magistrate has been instructed to hold an inquiry.
