HC Deb 14 March 1927 vol 203 cc1613-4
2. Sir WALTER de FRECE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been called to the reference of the Commander-in-Chief in the Legislative Assembly of India to the military aspect of the Bolshevist menace to India; and whether the existing British and native forces are regarded as sufficient to safeguard peace and security in that country?

Earl WINTERTON

I have seen a report of the speech referred to, which, as I read it, was intended to show, not that the strength of the Army in India as it stands is regarded as insufficient for its purposes, but that in present circumstances further large reductions in military expenditure cannot be expected.
