HC Deb 22 June 1926 vol 197 c227
12. Mr. R. MORRISON

asked the Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that children of British soldiers returning from service in India are found by educational authorities to be two years behind the average child in their education; and whether any improvements of the standard of education for children of British soldiers serving in India are under consideration?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

I have been asked to reply. The curriculum of the Army Children's Schools in India follows that laid down for primary schools in this country. My Noble Friend is aware from recent reports that some difficulty has been experienced in maintaining the required standard, though whether to the extent implied in the hon. Member's question I am unable to say. He is at present in communication with the Government of India and the War Office on the subject, and steps are being taken to remedy deficiencies.
