HC Deb 04 May 1925 vol 183 c581
57. Captain EDEN

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether his attention has been drawn to the arrest of the Sheikh of Muhammerah by the Persian Government; and whether any undertaking as to his personal security had previously been given to the Sheikh by the British Government?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative, but I am informed that the Sheikh is being treated considerately by the Persian Government which professes friendly sentiments towards him; as regards the second part of the question, no undertaking such as is suggested was given by the British Government, nor was any required, since a settlement of differences between the Sheikh and the Persian Prime Minister was agreed upon in December, 1924.
