HC Deb 09 March 1925 vol 181 c899
4. Sir PHILIP RICHARDSON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether, seeing that it is detrimental to British prestige in India that Army officers should receive inadequate pay, he will recommend that the pay and allowances of officers in India be readjusted at an early date to meet the greatly increased cost of living there?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

Revised Fates which take effect from the 1st July last have now been sanctioned, and an announcement has, I understand, just been made in India. Full information will be issued in this country as soon as the details arc available. I must add that, in fixing these rates of pay, the question of prestige is not taken into consideration.
