HC Deb 27 July 1925 vol 187 cc4-5
9. Mr. LANSBURY

asked the Undersecretary of State for India whether he is aware that torture is practised in the Multan Gaol, situated in the Panjaub, the torture consisted of ear holding, shoe heating, indiscriminate thrashings, extortion of money from prisoners' relatives by maltreating, and threat of maltreatment; and what steps he proposes to take to put an end to such practices?

Earl WINTERTON

I have seen a Press report of a judgment dealing with the practices in this particular gaol. The Government of India have been asked by telegram for a report.
