HC Deb 08 December 1925 vol 189 cc234-5
37. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Secretary of State for War whether the Wembley Tattoo had any result on recruiting for the Army; and whether he has been consulted regarding unofficial tattoos to be manned next year by ex-service men?

Captain KING

I think it is probable that tattoos have a beneficial effect on recruiting, and the Army Council hope that tattoos may be organised next year by the military authorities in commands on the lines of those at Aldershot and Tidworth. The answer to the second part of the question is in the negative, but I would like to take this opportunity of saying that the War Office could not give facilities for unofficial displays of this kind.

Mr. THURTLE

Do the Government consider the tattoo had had the effect of fostering the spirit of militarism?
