HC Deb 05 July 1923 vol 166 c623
84. Colonel Sir CHARLES YATE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the memorial submitted by the military officers of the Political Department of the Government of India praying for the removal of the differentiation in pay between the civil and military officers employed in that Department has been considered by the Secretary of State; and whether he can hold out a hope that when the financial position of the Government of India becomes less stringent this differentiation will be brought to a close?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Earl Winterton)

The memorial to which my hon. and gallant Friend refers has been received and will be most carefully considered, but I am not at present in a position to make any statement regarding it.

Mr. J. HOPE SIMPSON

Will the Commission which is going to India inquire into this question?

Earl WINTERTON

It is difficult to answer a specific question as to what the Commission will inquire into. It really rests with the Chairman of the Commission, and I have no doubt that he will take into consideration all the facts connected with it.
