HC Deb 14 September 1915 vol 74 c6
7. Mr. PRINGLE

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he can state the amount of sales of 5s., 10s., and £1 vouchers?

Mr. McKENNA

The sales of scrip vouchers for 5s., 10s., and £1, and of scrip certificates for £5 up to 4th September, the latest date to which statistics are available, are estimated at not less than £2,473,500, but this figure will require revision as the returns are not yet complete. Separate statistics for the respective denominations of vouchers and certificates are not immediately available.

The above figure does not, of course, include the applications for stock certificates received through post offices or banks which amounted by 4th September to £30,614,000.

Mr. HOGGE

Is my right hon. Friend prepared to make a statement in regard to the continuance of the investment of these small sums?

Mr. McKENNA

I cannot at the present time, but I shall be prepared to make a statement later.
