HC Deb 28 July 1914 vol 65 cc1123-5
Mr. BONAR LAW

I wish to ask the Prime Minister when he proposes to take the Government of Ireland (Amendment) Bill?

The PRIME MINISTER

We propose to take the Second Beading of the Government of Ireland (Amendment) Bill upon Thursday next.

Perhaps I may add a statement about Business. To-night, after Eleven o'clock, we shall take the remaining stages of the Milk and Dairies Bill and the County and Borough Councils (Qualification) Bill; also the Report of the Money Resolution of the Anglo-Persian Oil Agreement.

To-morrow, on Scottish Estimates, the first Vote put down will be for the Land Court; then Board of Agriculture, and the Board of Fisheries.

To-morrow, after Eleven o'clock, we shall take the remaining stages of the British Nationality and Status of Aliens Bill and the Second Reading of the Coal Mines Bill, and, if time permits, conclude the discussion on the Second Reading of the Inebriates Bill.

On Friday, the Committee stage of the Housing Bill.

Mr. BONAR LAW

Had the right hon. Gentleman not in his mind that possibly more time than one day would be required for the Amending Bill?

The PRIME MINISTER

We will see about that. I do not think Friday would be a convenient day.

Mr. MORRELL

May I ask when the Home Office Vote will be taken?

The PRIME MINISTER

Upon Monday.

Sir GILBERT PARKER

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when the Merchant Shipping (Convention) Bill will be taken?

The PRIME MINISTER

We hope to take it after eleven o'clock very soon.

Mr. T. M. HEALY

Can the right hon. Gentleman say, for the general convenience of the House, whether, if the Amending Bill goes over from Thursday, the Home Office Vote will still be taken upon Monday?

The PRIME MINISTER

I think we must take it upon Monday.

Mr. BONAR LAW

May I put another question in regard to the Amending Bill? If it is found that a second day is necessary, would it not be more convenient to take it upon Monday; and would it not be possible, if necessary, to suspend the Standing Order and take Supply later?

The PRIME MINISTER

We will consider that.

Mr. PRINGLE

Would the right hon. Gentleman bear in mind that Monday is an inconvenient day for such important business. [HON MEMBERS: "Why?"]

Mr. J. HOGGE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether it is the Scottish or English Milk and Dairies Bill that is to be taken?

The PRIME MINISTER

The English Bill.

Mr. C. E. PRICE

On what day is it proposed to take the Education Department of the Scottish Estimates?

The PRIME MINISTER

It will come after the Vote I have already mentioned, that of Board of Agriculture and Fisheries.

Sir A. MARKHAM

May I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman has overlooked the fact that Monday being Bank Holiday, there are no trains running from the North, and that that would be inconvenient for Members?

Mr. RAMSAY MACDONALD

With reference to the Home Office Vote it was arranged for next Monday, as one of the days allotted to us, and may I ask the Prime Minister not to fix Monday until we see about that arrangement?

The PRIME MINISTER'S

reply was not audible in the Press Gallery.
