HC Deb 14 April 1914 vol 61 c13
19 and 20. Mr. OUTHWAITE

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies (1) whether he can give the names of the six chief European landholders in East Africa; and the area held by each; and (2) whether he can state the area of land in East Africa held by the firm of Eckstein and Company; and the conditions attached thereto?

The SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Mr. Harcourt)

I am not in a position to give the information asked for by my hon. Friend in these questions.

Mr. J. WARD

Why?

Mr. HARCOURT

I have not got it.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Will the right hon. Gentleman ask for this information as to the holdings?

Mr. HARCOURT

If my hon. Friend considers it necessary, of course I will endeavour to obtain it.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Is it not desirable, in the interests of the Grant of the £3,000,000, that it should be before us?
