HC Deb 05 June 1913 vol 53 c1044
Mr. NORTON-GRIFFITHS

I beg to ask the Prime Minister whether his attention has been drawn to the distress owing to the strike in the Wolverhampton, and Walsall districts of the Midlands, and whether he is aware that there are thousands of children on the verge of starvation, whether the parents of those children, many of whom have been forced by the acts of others to stop work, are entitled to the insurance benefit, and, if so, whether the Government would take immediate steps to see that the parents receive, at the least possible delay, any benefits under the Act, and if not, whether the Government will take some other immediate steps towards their relief?

The PRIME MINISTER

Obviously that is a question of which notice should be given. I only received notice a minute ago. I will inquire into it.

Mr. NORTON-GRIFFITHS

May I urge immediate action?

Mr. KEIR HARDIE

will the right hon. Gentleman at the same time urge the local education authorities to put the Provision of Meals for School Children Act into force?
