HC Deb 26 February 1912 vol 34 c986
Mr. TOUCHE

asked if, with a view to removing apprehension and uncertainty, he can assure the House that no further appointments will be made to the new lower grade of assistant women clerks in the General Post Office until the Select Committee on Post Office Servants has reported on the question?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

I would refer the hon. Member to my reply to his question of last Thursday on this subject.

Mr. LANSBURY

Does the answer which the right hon. Gentleman gave on Thursday mean that he will make no addition to the number already appointed, but will only fill the vacancies made by those who may fall out of the number?

Mr. HERBERT SAMUEL

The vacancies to which I referred were in the class of women clerks who are doing work of an elementary kind similar to that allotted to the new class of assistant women clerks.
