HC Deb 03 July 1911 vol 27 cc795-6
Mr. LEES SMITH

asked the Prime Minister when it is intended to take the Resolution upon Payment of Members?

Mr. RAMSAY MACDONALD

asked whether the Government is going to move the Financial Resolution on Payment of Members on an. early day; and, if so, when?

Sir WILLIAM BYLES

asked what are the present intentions of the Government in regard to the payment of Members?

The PRIME MINISTER

The intentions of the Government in regard to payment of Members were stated by the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget speech, and, subject always to Parliamentary exigencies, the Government hope to give effect to them. I cannot at present name any day for dealing with the subject.

Mr. LEE

Can the right hon. Gentleman say when will the Resolution of which he spoke the other day be on the Paper for us to see?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, I cannot at this moment; without any unnecessary delay.

Mr. LEES SMITH

Will the right hon. Gentleman take this opportunity of contradicting the rumours that it is to be postponed beyond this year?

The PRIME MINISTER

I can only repeat the reply already given.

Mr. MacCALLUM SCOTT

Will the right hon. Gentleman explain what Parliamentary exigencies are?

The PRIME MINISTER

No; that is beyond the wit of man.

Mr. PRINGLE

Will the right hon. Gentleman give effect to the pledge which he gave himself that this will be carried through this Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

I can only repeat the answer which I have already given.
