HC Deb 14 March 1910 vol 15 cc5-6
Mr. WEDGWOOD

asked what reply had been received from the United States Government as to the information supplied to them by their consul at Iquitos with reference to the Peruvian Amazon Company's treatment of natives?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

We are informed by the United States Government that they have received no special report from their Consul at Iquitos on the subject. The Consul appears merely to have dealt with the question of the ill-treatment of Messrs. Hardenburg and Perkins while travelling through the Putamayo district.

Mr. WEDGWOOD

Is there any chance of the United States Government taking this question up, or are they interesting themselves in it as a mere formality?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

We have had no reply on the subject as yet.
