HC Deb 28 May 1908 vol 189 cc1259-60
EARL WINTERTON

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has received any official information as to the creation by the Canadian Government of an office of Canadian Secretary of Imperial and Foreign Correspondence; and, if so, will he state what are the exact functions and status of this official.

THE UNDER-SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES (COLONEL SEELY,) Liverpool, Abercromby

The Secretary of State has no information beyond what has appeared in the Press.

EARL WINTERTON

Will the hon. Gentleman inquire if it is a fact that this official has been appointed?

COLONEL SEELY

If such a step has been taken no doubt we shall be duly informed. If it has been it is nothing unusual, for a similar arrangement has been made by the Australian Commonwealth.
