HC Deb 25 March 1908 vol 186 c1404
MR. WEDGWOOD (Newcastle-under-Lyne)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he has yet any information which will explain on what grounds the Indians landing at Vancouver from the "Monteadle" were ordered to be deported by the Canadian Federal Authority; whether opposition to their landing came from the Federal Authority and not from the Provincial Government; and if he has information on these points will he give it to the House, and say whether the decision of the Federal Authority has the approval of His Majesty's Government.

THE UNDER - SECRETARY OF STATE ROS THE COLONIES (Mr. CHURCHILL,) Manchester, N.W.

No, Sir; I am afraid I can add nothing to my Answer to the hon. Member's Question of Friday last.

MR. WEDGWOOD

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman would make inquiries as to the reasons which actuated the Federal Government in deporting these Indians.

MR. CHURCHILL

was understood to say that inquiries were proceeding.
