HC Deb 29 May 1907 vol 174 c1640
MR. PIKE PEASE

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can state approximately the number of British subjects, white and coloured, residing in the Congo Free State.

MR. CHURCHILL

We have no official data of our own on this point, but in the "Bulletin Officiel" of the Congo Government for the year 1906 we find that the total number of British subjects, though no distinction is made between white and coloured, is given as 139.
