HC Deb 27 August 1907 vol 182 c398
MR. BRANCH (Middlesex, Enfield)

I beg to ask the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he is aware that the Government of Natal, South Africa, propose largely to increase the charges for licences to travellers from £10 inclusive of all firms whom they represent to £25 for each firm; and whether he will use his influence to avert this injury to British trade.

MR. CHURCHILL

The Secretary of State is aware of the proposed legislation and has received a number of representations that it will be seriously prejudicial to British trade. He has thought it right to bring these representations to the notice of the Governor of Natal by telegram.
