HC Deb 19 November 1906 vol 165 c406
VISCOUNT TURNOUR (Sussex, Horsham)

I beg to ask the Postmaster-General whether he will state the number of telegrams relating to betting despatched from the different post offices in Ireland from 1st January, 1906, to 30th June, 1906, inclusive; and how large a portion of those telegrams came from counties Down and Clare.

MR. MACVEAGH (Down S.)

As this Question is partly directed at me, may I be allowed to say that I never made a bet in my life until last week, when I accepted an offer of 20 to 1 that the noble Lord would not be in the next Tory Government?

VISCOUNT TURNOUR

As a personal explanation, I can assure the hon. Gentleman that the Question is not directed at him.

THE POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Mr. SYDNEY BUXTON, Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

stated that he could not furnish the information required, as the forms had been destroyed.
