HC Deb 05 May 1904 vol 134 c535
COLONEL NOLAN (Galway, N.)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India if he can now state to what extent competition has been abolished for entrance to civil State employment in India; if the abolition of competition applies only to natives of India; and if he will state into whose hands will fall the patronage which may arise from the abolition of competition.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

I have not yet received the Paper promised by the Government of India, and am not in a position to add anything to the answer given on my behalf by the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on the 21st March last to the Question on this subject of the hon. Member for West Denbighshire.†

COLONEL NOLAN

It is more than a month since I asked for information and the right hon. Gentleman then wanted me to give him time?

MR. BRODRICK

I very much regret the delay. The information has been promised as soon as possible.
