I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India if he will state approximately to what extent the finances of India will be relieved during the current year through the loan of Indian troops for Imperial services outside India.

The Government of India have informed me that the saving to Indian revenues in the current year through the absence of Indian troops lent for imperial purposes will be approximately as follows:—

Troops in China (savings calculated to end of year) £48,200. Troops in Somaliland (savings calculated to 30th Sept.) £42,800. Total—£91,000.
