HC Deb 18 April 1904 vol 133 cc374-5
MR. LAMBERT

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for India whether, in the event of negotiations at Gyangtse with Tibet breaking down, it is proposed to continue the advance to Lhasa; and whether any preparations have been made with the latter object in view.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Mr. BRODRICK,) Surrey, Guildford

I do not think that a statement of the intentions of the Government in the event of the negotiations at Gyangtse breaking down would be in the public interest at this moment.

MR. LAMBERT

Will the right hon. Gentleman telegraph instructions that † See (4) Debates, cxxxii., 973. this expedition need not slaughter these unfortunate people.
