HC Deb 05 May 1891 vol 353 cc137-8
MR. LABOUCHERE

I beg to ask the Vice President of the Committee of Council on Education whether his attention has been called to the fact that Mr. James Boyce has been dismissed from the Mastership of the Cobridge National Schools, and that, on inquiring of the vicar of the parish why he was dismissed, he was informed that he did not take sufficient interest in his religious duties, and that the committee did not like his connection with the football club because it played matches on Good Friday and Christmas Day; and whether it is intended to take official notice of this dismissal?

THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (Sir W. HART DYKE,) Kent, Dartford

So far as I can learn, no information with respect to the allegations contained in the question has reached the Department; but I must point out to the hon. Member that the Department is not a party to the contract between a teacher and the managers of a school, and questions arising upon that contract can only be determined by a Court of Law.
