HC Deb 19 March 1891 vol 351 cc1430-1
MR. BUCHANAN (Edinburgh, W.)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he will consider the possibility of making arrangements for giving speedy receipts for telegrams on demand gratis; and whether he is aware that the amount at present charged for a receipt, and the delay in giving it, hinder many from obtaining this security for the safe despatch of their messages?

*MR. RAIKES

In reply to the hon. Member, I have to say that I am not in a position to authorise the giving of receipts for telegrams without charge. As I have already announced in this House, I have considered the question of reducing the charge, but the Government did not see their way to agree to any reduction.
