HC Deb 02 March 1891 vol 350 cc2045-6

Order for Second Reading read.

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Bill be now read a second time."

MR. TOMLINSON (Preston)

I object.

MR. A. H. DYKE ACLAND (York, W.R., Rotherham)

I think the object of the Bill is well known and approved by all friends of education. Nearly every County Council is interested in the matter. I hope the hon. Member will not persist in his objection.

MR. TOMLINSON

I am not sure that all persons interested in education do agree with the Bill in its present form.

THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL FOR EDUCATION (Sir W. HART DYKE, Kent, Dartford)

I hope my hon. Friend will allow the Bill to proceed. The subject does very much exercise the minds of County Councils.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill read a second time, and committed for Monday next.
